Quotes within story comments?

Vincent Berg ๐Ÿšซ

So far, my readers seem to approve of the story comments (though it took them time to discover it, as it's not necessarily intuitive). However, they tend to either ask questions or post suggestions, which I'd like to respond to. The problem is, the comment form doesn't work like the forum and doesn't allow users to quote text (other than to type it into the message itself).

I'd like to suggest you add this functionality in, so authors can comment on suggestions and readers can respond to other readers.

I'll see when I can get it done.

Thanks, Lazeez. I appreciate it. And this is purely a nicety, rather than a bug-fix, so I'm not concerned with how fast you address it.

@Awnlee

Surely the functionality of story discussions is covered by the forum, so adding it to story comments would create duplication.

Except, not everyone frequents the forum to discuss issues, but you (as an author) would still want to address issues raised. Likewise, one reader may want to address issues raised by another.

Since the functionality is already there (in the forum), I didn't think it would take as long to add as an entirely new feature request.

I've posted a blog entry to address this and stated:

New Site Service for Readers

The site has a new reader function where they can add a comment at the end of the story for other readers. Authors can turn this on or off for each story. I've turned it on. This is for readers to make comments for other readers. I do not track them or read them, so don't say anything there you expect me to respond to. If you wish to communicate with me, send me an email via the Author Feedback link or my site email link.

Thank you.

I've also included virtually the same comment in me story end notes. I don't get enough time to write as it is, so I don't need another distracting element to keep an eye on. They've been warned, questions there will not be answered by me.

I agree, but when someone comments on story/chapter length (something I've suspected for some time ultimately affects my scores, since most of my newer stories, while generating favorable feedback and positive sales, also have lower scores. Thus I felt it apt to address the issues so more readers would see it. However, I don't plan on checking each of my stories to see whether anyone has commented on something or not.

Do you mind if I (or others) use it as well?

feel free to use the same wording, or any variant of it you want.

Personally I would much rather have questions or suggestions sent to me via feedback, not in the story comments.

Understood, but this way, readers can comment on the story (and things that bug them) to other reader. In the same way, instead of responding to single readers, by addressing concerns, I can answer multiple readers at once, many of whom may never contact me. Generally, only 2% of readers (best guess) respond to an author, that's a lot of people we aren't addressing!
