More info button… making it appear on details page.

geeko 🚫

Laz,

Can we have the "more info" link appearing on the updates and home pages that shows the individual chapters release dates, also appear in the story details section on the stories main page?

@geeko

I was thinking of requesting this too, but it's not too bad to bring up any 'more info' page, then substitute (cut-paste) the story ID in the URL with the wanted one.

What I would find useful is to have the More Info link on all the search results, e.g. quicksearch, so I can go 'search-expand-more info' rather than 'search-copy story link-open example more info-trim example storyid from example moreinfo URL-paste copied link on end of example URL-edit out all but storyid from pasted link', a convoluted and error-prone procedure, and likely not possible on a phone.

I'm confused.

On the site's home page, in the activity stream where all the stories appear, all the stories listed have a [more info] link.

Also, in the updates page, each story has [more info] link too.

also appear in the story details section on the stories main page?

You mean put the more info link on the story's index page?

That's how I interpreted the OP's request, though if that's what was requested, it would have been clearer if 'appearing ' had been written instead as 'that appears', or the descriptive clause isolated with parentheses, parenthetical commas, or hyphens masquerading as parenthetical em-dashes.

ETA: The OP's desire for [More Info] from, presumably, within the story may be fulfilled by opening the home page, selecting the today's usage link (just below the 'Stories Available' info box at the top of the left column) and selecting [More Info] from the entry for their current story. This is so quick and easy it's not worth putting the [More Info] into the story's front page - it's just a little unobvious.

If you go to a story via a 'more info' link, it doesn't appear in your history (unless you start reading it). And, in the past, even looking at the home page counted against your daily access limit (and might still do so if it's a single-chapter story; I have not investigated). In many ways, it would be sensible to drop the current 'story home page' and repurpose the more info page as the home page.

Overall, I'm against this.
In favour: - the individual chapter lengths are listed, so you have the information to decide to read (or not) the next chapter before going to bed - but, you'd have to switch back to your proposed new storyindex to see that, so you might as well switch to the [MoreInfo] page as it is at present (I keep it open in one tab and work through the chapters in another tab to make this simple)
Against:
- for multichapter stories you don't see the cover picture unless you explicitly view the story index (and any author notes chosen to be shown on the story index page), and would not be reasonable to show on the [MoreInfo] page (too cluttered!), so there's nowhere for these to go if that replacement is done.
- The [MoreInfo] page contains a lot of info the casual reader would likely not want to be bothered with
- Additional info which may in future be added to the [MoreInfo] page may act as a spoiler

I am also against repurposing the "more info" page, as the story index page.

If it were made part of the story details page, one could quickly navigate to the more info page without having to open a chapter, go to home page, select stories usage, select the more info link…. Which btw was a nice workaround… just inconvenient.

It was late and I was tired… 🥱

If by story's index page, you mean the page that has an image, story title, show story details toggle and chapter link list then yes. I wanted it to be included as part of the story details - eg hidden unless clicked.

I often find myself wondering when the last couple of chapters were released to determine the release pacing or if there are chapters that have been revised… and it is inconvenient to review each chapter, or go to the home/update page to access the "more info" link… and often the story has already rolled off these pages…
