Was doing some category searching and found that searching for size value smaller than 6 doesn't exclude results smaller than the entered number. 5 and below all see from 0kb to the upper limit if set and in the category filters.

So, it's not a BUG. It's a FEATURE.
It's a design choice. There is specific code to ignore under 5 values.
It accepts a number below 6, but silently ignores it. Should be displaying the value it is using instead of pretending to accept it but ignoring it.
How many SOL 'stories' have a size less than 6? I suspect they're flash fiction or poems.
