Story scores for authors

EricR ๐Ÿšซ

As authors we used to be able to see story scores before the twenty threshold was reached. That feature has now been turned off.

I used that capability often to understand which stories were landing with different audiences, even when the stories themselves weren't broadly read.

Can that be turned back on?

@EricR

Do you have earned or paid premier membership? You can get an indication by sorting your stories by score.

@awnlee jawking

Earned. And yes, we have been able to get that indication in the past. However, sorting by score simply sorts alphabetically when the stores aren't visible.

Interesting. Category search, and advanced search have in my experience properly sorted stories without a visible score when you sort by score.

@EricR

Your highest rated story is 'Symphony No. 69 in Erotic Minor' but it doesn't have a visible score (yet). Your second highest-scoring story, which does have a visible score, is 'When the Toaster Spoke' with a score of 8.74.

@awnlee jawking

Thank you for doing that AJ.

I think perhaps it's different if you have a paid membership. I don't see what you're seeing when I search my own work with Advanced Search. It produces the same ordering as the author stats page. But I have an earned membership.

But I have an earned membership.

That's what I have. But sadly, I haven't done much to justify it recently. The next chapter in my ongoing story was due 11 months ago :-(

:(

Interesting fact - I did searches on both the category and advanced search pages on my Author name. It returned all my stories. If I then tried to sort by score, it threw all the ones that did not have enough votes away.

It appears you have a different version of the page than I do.

I have done some work on it the meantime. Honest!

But I'm currently desolated. I came up with an idea for a coming-of-age story that put an exciting new angle on a standard trope. But I forgot to write down the synopsis, and now all trace of it seems to have vanished from my brain. Stupid doesn't even begin to cover it :-(

I'd recommend AI (couldn't resist)

Good luck. Memory has a funny way of coming back at the most unexpected times.

You can click on the heading for the Score column to sort it by score. I don't have any stories that don't have the minimum number of votes so I couldn't test it on my Stats page, but I went to Authors, E, and clicked on your name. When I clicked on the Score column heading it sorted it by score, not alphabetically. My premier membership is also Earned.

I would have thought all the stories with no visible score would appear first, but that wasn't the case. So what awnlee suggested should work.

@Switch Blayde

Doesn't work for me. Example: I picked a random author off the front page (Satya69), and did an advanced search. Three of the four stories didn't have the minimum number of votes. When I sorted by score, it returned one result.

I don't know what's different about your account and AJs from mine, but mine doesn't work in the same way. When I sort by score it throws away all of the stories that don't have the minimum number of votes. And when I sort by score on my stats page, it sorts the stories with the minimum number of votes correctly, and then sorts the remainder alphabetically.

and did an advanced search.

Yeah, when I did an Advanced Search on your author name and sorted by Score the same thing happened. The stories with too few votes disappeared.

But when I went to Authors, E, and then your author name, I sorted the stories by Score. That did not throw away the stories with too few votes. So do it that way.

And go to your Author Stats page and try it there. I couldn't test that because all my stories have enough votes to have a score.

Be quick, though. Maybe Advance Search is the way it's supposed to work so Lazeez may change the other places stories are listed.
