When a thread goes n-number of years without having a new post, would it make sense to lock the thread? It would still be there for people to search on, but it wouldn't be available to post on.

You never know. Sometime a long standing question with no answer may get an answer finally.
I'll keep it as is.
I occasionally go to the 'lost stories' and check an open tab that I keep. I am working my way back through old topics. Occasionally I find some new story to read. More often, I find a story where I go, "Oh, yeah. I remember that." Either way, something to read, or reread. The point is, sometimes people read and post to those old topics. I have , on rare occasions.
