Can you move the "All Threads by Date" to the top of the list (right under "Site Announcements")?
I don't know about anyone else, but that's where I go to see if there are any new posts.

I cheat and have the All Threads by Date' page bookmarked and simply go straight to that each time I want to check it.
Why check it at all? I open on the Forum page, then open each thread that indicates new messages. It's quite convenient now that they open on the first unread message. With "All threads by date" at the bottom I've read all the new messages by the time I get to it. If you're not interested in a particular thread, mark it read (click on the green button) and go on to the next one.
What green button? That's the second time someone mentioned it. I don't see a green button anywhere.
