New story to be archived ???

doctor_wing_nut ๐Ÿšซ

How does a new story (01/15) currently updated (01/19) end up on the 'about to be archived' page? Castle in the Sand, by Deana Johns, shows up there today, as well as on the currently updated page. Sounds very similar to an older story, but it's clearly recent.

An author can choose to make a new story (premier members only) after a set time. Lubrican has done this with some of his stories.

copyright for the story is 1997 and it was posted here on sol years ago and is being reposted again now. The story is now "premier" only.

IIRC, the archive process does a check on whether anyone has logged in to the author's account since a story was announced as 'up for archival', and if they have the story is not archived.

If the story does get archived, it should be reported to management.

I believe an archive has been run and the story didn't get archived. However another tranche of stories is up for archival.

I would think that since the story is being posted under "Dean Johns" that the person posting had logged in under that name which should have cancelled any 'up for archival". Or is my thinking wrong?

Just for a theoretical discussion, could it be possible for an author to set up publishing schedule lasting years?

If so, the situation with still updating story up for archival due to author's absence could be technically correctly possible.

A single story can be scheduled for no more than two years from the date the story is put into the schedule. But it's possible to schedule additions to a story at predefined intervals. If the interval is large enough and if there are several parts to the story, it may be possible to have the parts posted more than two years from the initial scheduling. It's not something I've tried.

There is currently some 'glitchy-ness' on site. I tweaked a story on 19/12/2024, yet it's now flagged as being 'inactive and incomplete'...

Perhaps 'inactive' means no new parts. Tweaks don't qualify for the 'Updated Stories' list so that would be consistent.

Possibly, though there was 13 thousand additional words sneaked in there at the same time as a few spelling corrections...

Actually, I think it was a re-post of a chapter I was not happy with, so it looks like re-posts of a chapter don't count to whether a story is active or not...
