show chapter length in Bookapy?

Hi, I'm currently reading Son of a Sailor

It's not finished on SOL but I noticed the complete book is for sale on Bookapy.

I'd like to know how many chapters in the Bookapy book to see if I should just wait or pull the trigger to buy the rest of it.

Is that a do-able?

Thanks,

T.

Bookapy displays the book size in words. The book's page:

https://bookapy.com/s/646/son-of-a-sailor

shows 191,000 words. The post on SOL shows current size of 177,000 words. So 14,000 words more on bookapy than on SOL currently. I believe the book is 30 chapters on Bookapy.

Oh, thanks, didn't notice the word count.

I see it's been the 3 chapters from finish for 9 months. It's that a SOL restriction or something. I think I heard a rule about that once.

Slightly annoying, but I guess the author wants to make money as well. How long can they leave it unfinished if it's actually finished? Is there a rule for that as well?

How about suggesting premium members get the ending? Would that be a useful feature for the site?

Thanks,

T.

I'm fairly certain there are rules on SOL about how far ahead your story is allowed to be on other sites, like Patreon for example, because they don't want SOL to be used for teasers and mere advertising campaigns.

In your own browser the date should show in your own preferred format.

In your own browser the date should show in your own preferred format.

I checked on my Win 10 system. It doesn't seem to let me select the date format directly, rather I have to select a region which controls the date format.

English(United States) yields M-D-Y

English(Australia) or English(United Kingdom) yields D-M-Y.

Interestingly, English(Canada) yields the ISO 8601 format of Y-M-D.

Fortunately, Apple allows you to select the date format independent of the region, and the options are:

M/D/YY (single or double digits)

MM/DD/YY (always double digits)

DD/MM/YYYY

DD.MM.YYYY

DD-MM-YYYY

YYYY/M/D (single or double digits)

YYYY.MM.DD

YYYY-MM-DD [My preferred]

There are also independent selections for calendar (13, including Muslim[x4], Japanese, Hebrew, Buddhist), number format (including both the , as the decimal separator and the decimal point), temperature, measurements, (US, Metric, and the hilariously combined UK system), and sort order.

Even better, I can set the language options by app (e.g. Word defaults to Russian or Pages defaults to Swedish, etc).

Makes it very easy to make things look exactly the way I want. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

my Win 10 system. It doesn't seem to let me select the date format directly

Control Panel > Clock and Region > Region > button Additional Settings > Tab date > The "Short date" and "Long Date" are editable drop down you can type your own template with language dependant codes like yyyy-MM-dd.

This work in most native windows app. But unfortunately, chrome and firefox choose to ignore that and rely on their own hard coded format for the user regional settings as set in Windows using English(Canada) seems like a good option.

They hide the control panel in Win 10. Didn't realize it was still there.

Also, no, the short and long date formats on the Control Panel are not manually editable on my system.

They are not editable on the Region dialog.
You need to click the button Additional Settings then go to the tab date...

I use Tor. It resets every login.

Tor does it to prevent fingerprinting users.

They explicitly removed the option to use the system locale for date format.

Changing http header lang (only 38 to choose from) however should result in change to javascript date formatting.

Firefox as a similar setting: privacy.resistFingerprinting which among other things will put you in the UTC time zone with the en_US date format.

I believe the author has to post something at least bi-weekly. I assume bi-weekly is every two weeks.

@Switch Blayde

I believe the author has to post something at least bi-weekly.

I found it in the rules:

17. Promotions: All promotions must be compliant with rule #6. No teasers. No permanently partial postings. If you start posting a book/story on the site, you must complete it if it's fully written. Failure to comply with these rules will result in a permanent ban on posting on Storiesonline.

a. Book Sales: Any promotional links or text to sell your complete books are allowed only if they point to our book shop Bookapy.com. Progress must be made at least bi-weekly until the work is complete on Storiesonline. You authorize WLPC to complete the posting on Storiesonline in case you are unable to do it yourself.

b. Writer support (Patreon, Subscribestar etc...): If you promote your writing on Storiesonline and ask for financial support, you must keep the progress on Storiesonline relatively close to your postings on your support site. You must keep the work on Storiesonline within two instalments of the work on the support site. If the work is completed on the support site, then it must be completed on Storiesonline within two weeks of the completion on the support site. Failure to keep up the progress will result in one of the following:

So if the author posted on September 1, 2023, they are in compliance.

It says "30 chapters" in the description. 27 are posted so there are 3 more chapters.

I'd like to point out: This number is NOT reliable.

I have one story on SOL that I also edited before submitting it to Bookapy. Bookapy asked me for the word count, so I gave it the number my MS Word showed. But, as I pointed out in another thread on this forum, SOL counts words differently than MS Word.

Now, according to Word, the edited version I put on Bookapy is roughly eight thousand words longer than the version I posted to SOL. So, I also included that info in the Bookapy Ad on my story, as an extra incentive to check out the edited version.

But when I then check that story on SOL and compare it with the word count I gave Bookapy to display, it now looks as if the edited version was actually a hundred words SHORTER than the free version on SOL :D
