Sort the stories in each author's profile

9hans.fritz6 ๐Ÿšซ

I recommend implementing a way to sort the stories in each author's profile, to provide a better experience for readers to follow and find more stories from our favorite authors.

Many other reading websites, when you enter an author's profile, allow you to sort their stories according to their size, rating, number of views, etc. However, the most important are to sort the stories according to their last date of update or publication, this last one is fundamental to be able to see the last stories of our favorite authors more easily.

We have those features all ready. If you click the word TITLE it will show all stories listed from A-Z click again they will now be listed Z-A.

Same for Description (Date / Update) click either Date or update once or twice will list everything from latest to oldest or oldest to latest.

This works as well with Size Dnlds Votes Score
just click each word once or twice to get the listing order you want.

mmm I think you are talking about the stories in search. I am referring to the stories of a specific author. When you enter the author's profile only appear in a single order all the stories written by that author. This makes it difficult to find the last published stories, and you can only see them story by story.

At least in my case it is like that. I use a computer, and Chrome

I am referring to the stories of a specific author.

He was too.

If you click on "Author" and then the letter the author's name begins with, you get a list of authors. Scroll to find the author you're looking for and click on the pen name. That brings up all the stories that author has posted.

You can then sort it in many ways. The default is by title so, for example, my story "The Audition" appears first (the "the" is ignored).

Click on "date" and you get "Unexpected Valentine" which was my last story posted (on 2/13/2023 for the Valentine's Day contest). Click on "date" again and it changes it from descending to ascending so my story "Haunted House" is first (posted on 11/2/2004).

Click on "update" and the first story listed in my "The Nymphomaniac" since I just posted an update today (4/17/2023). That will give you the latest story I updated. Click on "update" again and it changes the order to ascending. It looks like stories that have never been updated show up first in alphabetical order of title.

You can click on any of the titles to switch from descending to ascending.

We have it. It's a premier feature.

While I understand the need to reserve certain features for Premier members to incentivise joining the site*, not having this feature available for general users doesn't seem like a good idea.

* And I am 100% in favour of the site being funded through membership, rather than other alternatives.

I am sorry for proposing a function that already existed, therefore I propose that the order of the stories in the authors' profiles is ordered by the last update made. This would make it easier to see the latest stories of each author, which I think would benefit them, since it would be easier to find the latest stories they are working on and could increase downloads, views, comments, etc..

ordered by the last update made. This would make it easier to see the latest stories of each author

Except in the cases where a complete story is posted. There is no update date. You would miss out on that author's latest story.

So by date of publication, if what I propose is to make it easier to see the latest of the authors.

So by date of publication, if what I propose is to make it easier to see the latest of the authors.

My point was there are two different orderings (is that a word?) to see the latest by an author. There's an ordering for latest update. There's another ordering for latest story posted (when the story was posted complete and doesn't have updates).

With Premier membership you can do those two orderings. If a change is made to have a new default for non-Premier members, it would have to be one or the other.

Go to 'Advanced Search', enter author's name. Sort by date or update date.

It's available for free members.

This was good advice, as I never used the advanced search, to search by name or author.

Although I stand by my recommendation, simply to save time when searching and it is more intuitive. And like me, I think many other readers don't know about the advanced search function. They just read a story, like the story and click on the author's profile. And there are very few of us who enter the forum to read or post.

I agree 100%.

I don't think changing this feature from Premium to Free will negatively impact the number of subscribers. I would argue it might even increase their number.
