Inconsistant arrangment of chapters when displaying table of contents.

Freyrs_stories ๐Ÿšซ

So I checked out two stories mentioned in "lost stories". Summer road trip and American Teen.

One displays the First displays as usual in a grid layout. But American Teen is in a single, rather long column of 50 entries. I think this is the first time I've seen this discrepancy.

Browser Firefox unsure of version but on Linux. Actual 'install' is a little out of date 'Kodachi' 8.24 not 8.27 and is in a VMware 16.x VM

That's it, unless you need 'more'.

My understanding is that the layout of the index page is something the author can control when posting the story.

If it is, it's not something I've ever remembered clicking or checking when I've posted. I'd be curious to know that one.

I found this in the author help. It may not be on the posting wizard.

How to show TOC in story's index (cover) page

If your story's chapters have titles beyond the default 'Chapter 1', 'Chapter 2', etc..., you can turn on TOC display in the story's cover/index page.

To do that:

-> Authors/Editors page

-> Click on the 'Manage Stories' button

-> Click the story's title

-> Scroll down to the end to see the chapter titles

-> Click the 'Show TOC' button.

'
I haven't tried it. My understanding is that if you use the Show TOC, you get the single column list of chapters.

The author clicked the 'Show TOC' button for the story. Since it's inappropriate as there are no chapter titles provided by the author, I've turned it off.

Many authors do this.

Many authors do this.

The author help page for the TOC says the show TOC button is only supposed to be there if there are chapter titles. Perhaps you should look into that.

TOC button is only supposed to be there if there are chapter titles.

Prologue, intro, preface all count as chapter titles, thus triggering the display of the 'Show TOC' button.

Prologue, intro, preface

and foreword and, for the barbarians among us, forward ;-)

Does that mean that, since someone told me and I now know the difference, I'm no longer a barbarian? Non sequitur.

@Zen Master

I'm a barbarian in the sense of being a fan of Barbar's stories ;-)

Even nonier sequitur.
