Not getting notification emails

DaveT ๐Ÿšซ

When I send a comment to the author, I am supposed to get my comment as an email. Sometime in the past week I have stopped getting those emails. I do seem to be getting emails when an author replies to me (that would be received messages).

I checked the settings; they seem to be fine.

-- My email address is correct.
-- Private messages email notification frequency is set to "Email me copies of received and sent messages".

The messages are in the Sent folder, so the message system clearly received it. In the one case I can be sure of, the author got the message and sent me a reply, which did turn into email to me.

Am I missing something, or is this a bug?

Sometime email servers drop messages as spam and not even put them in your junk mail folder.

Most notoriously, our mail server is completely blocked by Microsoft (outlook.com, hotmail, live.com, msn.com etc...)

See if you can white list the sender email address.

But - he received the email notifying him of a reply from one of the recipients of one of the missing messages, so at least some are getting through.

Thanks, but that is not it.
-- I have all screening on my email server turned off. (It's my own domain, not something like gmail.)
-- I have a few filters on my email client, but none of them activated yesterday, when two of the SOL messages were lost. And none of them WOULD activate (when operating properly) on mail from SOL.
-- Checked my Trash folder, and nothing from SOL there. (I trim it once a month down to the past week.)
-- As madnige points out, I am getting emails when an author replies to me, but not for the messages I send to them.
-- I went into settings, and the active radio-button is "Email me copies of received and sent messages".

So I don't think the problem is at my email-receiving components.

BTW, I DO understand the problem you cite with Microsoft. I wrote an app on my web site that allows users to download some programs I have made available. email from that app in respose to user requests gets blocked by gmail (don't know about Microsoft, but Google doesn't like it).

Despite Mandrill / mailchimp, the PHPMailer IP 104.200.28.204 is seen as the origin and it is blacklisted as inside a range of poor reputation.

UCEPROTECTL2/L3, you have an IP address from your ISP that falls into a poor reputation range.

So there is nothing you can do if you do not change IP or mask it by sending using the Mandrill API instead of the SMTP interface via PHPMailer.

That's not a guarantee that mandrill isn't also blacklisted...
But you can test it by using Mandrill web interface to send a mail in the name of SOL.

@Gauthier

It's all a waste of time.

As long as Microsoft blocks a mail server on the complaint of 1 person (yes, their SNDS data said 1 complaint over the verification code) there is no point in changing anything as any new servers or new IP address can be as easily blacklisted.

I've spent a ridiculous amount of time in the past trying to work with Microsoft and Google on this kind of issue. In the end a combination of SPF, DMARC, DKIM, and Google site verificaiton, plus signing up for both companies domain admin/mail admin reporting/feedback services seems to have solved it.

That said, I don't know that it was worth the effort, given the arbitrary nature of bans.

DaveT ๐Ÿšซ

@DaveT

All that said, I am having a problem that does not seem to have anything to do with bans, the problem that I reported to begin this thread. Bear in mind that:
(1) My server imposes no bans unless I say so, and I didn't say so.
(2) I am receiving messages from authors in reply to my comments, just not the comments themselves.
