My account - History

Keet ๐Ÿšซ

It seems that the history listing under My Account is broken. I clear the list regularly but today it seems that the whole history is back including the votes I gave. Clearing the access history doesn't work anymore.
This also raises the question that the history is not actually cleared, just no longer shown. If I remember correctly Lazeez was glad if people cleared it because that would save database space. That doesn't seem to be the case.
(BTW, in the removed list the latest entry misses the entry for the author (Joe J).)

It seems that the history listing under My Account is broken.

The code hasn't been touched since it was introduced and it's very simple code. So it's not a bug.

There may be something going on with the DB servers.

I hate to reboot the DB servers. It's a lot of work to get the slave servers back up to proper sync status with the master.

However, since I've already had some wine when I saw the bug report, it will be until tomorrow to deal with it.

Never mess with servers after imbibing some really good Amarone.

From a clueless bystander, the hints which you let slip now and then of what you deal with on a frequent basis are amazing. Thank you for your hard work keeping this place running.

The problem turned out to be not with the database and not exactly a bug.

Now it has become a dilemma.

Few days ago, in this thread: https://storiesonline.net/d/s6/t10740/i-voted-x-bug

It was noted that the 'voted x' on a story was out of sync for stories voted on before premier was purchased. So I created a fix. The fix is what is causing this behaviour. The function deletes the flags, and then when the page reloads, the fix function is called, and it restores the stories you voted on to the flags table that holds the read time and the all the other info that speeds things up.

I want to delete the history for you, but I can't delete the votes. To fix the 'voted x' on story, while deleting the history flags, would mean to put a big load on the database as it would add yet another hit to the database for every page displayed for each premier member.

Technically, a vote is a kind of history.

Remind me again why you delete your history?

Remind me again why you delete your history?

The history doesn't represent what I actually read, not even close. Searching for lost story requests on the forum, reviewing authors/stories for the ReaderInfo site, etc. Regularly deleting the history gave a clean page with just a limited number of stories I accessed if I need it. The full list is kind of useless to me. On the other hand, I rarely use the list, most often only to clear it again. So if it's a real problem leave it as is, you probably have other things to do for the site that are way more important.

I did notice that only stories I have voted on are in the 'new' list, almost 1600 of them, all dated 1/1/1970 and sorted from highest to lowest score. I didn't remember there was actually a single story that I scored with "You call this a story", one I scored "Hated it", and one "Pretty bad". The rest I scored higher. Before the option to clear the list I sometimes used the list to see the date I read/voted a story but that is lost with all dates the same.

Don't forget to fix the last entry on the Removed list. The last entry (El Paso Border War) is missing the author (Joe J).

Since stories you've voted on should be stories you've read, then it makes sense that they remain in the history. Other stories are removed. So it basically fits well with your use case to remove the stories that you accessed for reasons other than reading.

I fixed the bug with the date and amended the clear history notification to make it clear that stories voted on will not be cleared.

Thank you. I will review the list and see if it's more useful in my use-case although the dates still all show 1/1/1970. I suppose the fix only works for new votes from now on. Maybe it's because I cleared the list before.

I cleared the flags one last time. Now when you go to historical access it will restore from the votes table with proper dates.

Yep, the dates are back which also means the sorting is back on date. Thank you.

I don't know if this will be helpful, but a few days ago I noticed that my history on Finestories was empty and dots were green again, despite the download arrow being present. I don't recall the exact sequence of events, but I think that after re-reading some of the stories, the history came back โ€“ however they were now all dated that day (15th Jan). Votes are present in the history. In the more info page, the Last Accessed date is 15th.

Right now, my SOL history has nothing after 10th Jan, although I have read several since then. All stories on the first few pages show Select Score. I'd have to trawl to check, but I know I don't have that many not voted. The list appears to be missing a lot of stories.

Until entry 584 on page 6, suddenly there are votes, but everything beyond that is 01/01/1970.

Looking at storyinfo for one I read on 13th Jan (https://storiesonline.net/library/storyInfo.php?id=51464), It says Last Accessed: 01/01/1970, 01:00:07

If it will add info for you, I periodically save my history, the last time was 27th Dec.

Edit to add: Stories You Accessed Today

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern

Last Accessed: 01/01/1970, 01:00:10

And again:
The Young Trailers Last Accessed:
18/01/2023, 17:20:48 - not present in history.
