Cant access site using mobile data

mclovinmanransom ๐Ÿšซ

Hello Everyone,

Is anyone else unable to access the site using mobile data currently?

I am able to access everything fine using My computer, and my phone via WIFI, but my 5g has been giving me an ERROR TIME OUT / 408 error all day.

Just trying to figure out if its the site, or If ATT is messing with something.

Thanks.

@mclovinmanransom

I just tried it with TMobile and it worked okay.

If one device has a problem and others don't, it's the device, not the site.

Due to where I am now, it's almost impossible to access the site using the Wi-Fi service available, but it's much faster using 4G. The reverse of your situation.

The site's servers don't care where you are or what you're using for access, they treat everybody equally.

I'm thinking ATT must be doing something wierd with my data. I have never had this problem until sometime yesterday.

My phone can still get to the site on wifi so I'm pretty sure the issue is with the mobile network. I'll see if I can try another network sometime tomorrow.

Thanks.

A potentially stupid question, but you haven't got parental controls on, or they haven't been switched on by mistake have they? I used to access the net via mobile phone and every now and then the carrier would randomly turn on parental controls. I don't know why it happened, but it was annoying as I would then have to phone up C.S. to get them to turn it back off....

Quickest way to check, is to visit (or try to, depending) another porn site. If you have access, then Parental control is off. If you can't, then probably P.C. is on.

@Pixy

I'd have thought WiFi access would then also fail, and possibly a real error message rather than a timeout.

Say you are at a certain well known burger place using their 'free' Wifi and enjoying reading a SoL story. Life is good.

You leave the burger place and now your phone is connecting to SoL via mobile data, not WiFi. You continue reading, until...

Horror of horrors you click to read the next chapter... nothing, just error messages. Worse still you can't futz with your phone whilst driving.

Here's a thought. Have you tested other websites while on mobile data?

Especially ones with adult content, as that would help to diagnose whether or not Parental Controls are on.

Actually I'd go with something innocuous like Google first. A lot of phones will let you set limits on mobile data usage and if you pass those limits, nothing will work without being on wifi.

@mclovinmanransom

Ill reply to all the questions with what I know

1) I have unlimited data, and every other site is working fine
2)The only sites that have issues are storiesonline, and scifistories. WLPC.com and bookapy work fine.
3) I can access the site through a proxy on mobile data just fine, but not in normal browser or incognito mode
4) I have tried several other adult sites and browsers, the sites were fine and browser had no effect.

I have one occasion gotten through briefly to a page, but any navigation from that page leads to the ERR_TIMed_OUT or the HTTP408 ERROR.

Thanks.

Every time I know I am going to be in the hospital for more then a day I bring my laptop and phone because I know I can't get SOL on their wi-fi so I have to link my phone to my laptop.

@mclovinmanransom

Just one more update, I was able to get to the site using mobile data on another phone on the same plan. I believe something is wrong with either my phone or the site is blocking my connection specifically for some reason.

My phone is still giving me the 408 error and telling me to contact the webmaster.

I tried clearing my cache and the other normal webpage not working fixes.

Any ideas?

@mclovinmanransom

My phone is still giving me the 408 error and telling me to contact the webmaster.

The site blocks hacking bots. Hacking bots are computers running automated scripts scanning for known vulnerabilities in web servers.

When one of those bots hits the site, the site blocks them with a 503 error, and doesn't ask them to contact the webmaster.

Whatever you're seeing, its root cause is not on our end.

408 error is 'Request Timeout', usually it's produced by a proxy that you're connecting through. A VPN is a proxy also.

@Lazeez Jiddan (Webmaster)

As far as I know I don't have a VPN running on my phone. I was able to get through with a random web proxy though. It must be something on my end probably with my mobile data network , but I have not changed anything in the last couple days when this issue started.

I have some stories downloaded for my trip anyway So ill leave it for a few days and see if it resolves itself.

Thanks for replying.

hmm, glad its not just me, wonder if its some kind of bug with android or chrome, or if ATT is doing something. Tell me if you find a fix.

I tested with chrome, firefox and duckduck go on android. Both private and normal modes.

I don't know how you do this on a mobile device but maybe try a ping or a tracert and see what happens. You could also use your mobile as a wifi hot spot and connect it to a computer and see what happens with the ping and tracert.

Riceeyes ๐Ÿšซ

@mclovinmanransom

Also do a search of "does at&t block websites". One hit talked about maybe people accidentally turn a filter on. Do the search in different search engines and see if you get different results.

Riceeyes ๐Ÿšซ

@mclovinmanransom

It works fine with Verizon Wireless mobile internet.

I'm just going to ask - have you done a hard reboot on your phone? That fixes SO many issues. (Meaning a full power cycle.)

I have tried a restart, a complete reboot, and even leaving it off overnight.

@mclovinmanransom

I did this search in duckduckgo "timeout trying to access web site". see if there is anything there that can help you. Try the search in google and bing. Maybe rephrase it and see if you get different results or have you already done a similar search? btw, if you can access those other sites I don't thing there is a block by at&t on SOL. Probably some type of obscure network conflict. Do you use apple or amazon? Do you know someone on at7t that you can borrow there device and see if there is the same problem. If you use someone else's device use it in privacy mode and your usage should be deleted. Is this just happening when you access the main page? That is, can you try to access like your library page to try to login from there?

mclovinmanransom ๐Ÿšซ

@mclovinmanransom

Yeah I have googled/searched a bunch of variations of How to fix HTTP408 / website time out.

I was able to get to the site using an Apple device on ATT, but I dont have access to another android device currently.

I also tried logging in via wlpc and clicking the link to come through that way and got stuck there.

Every page on the site gives me the same error.

I agree with you its some strange network conflict with my phones mobile data and the site, but I'm not sure there is much I can do to fix it.

It looks like my phone when using mobile data is sending a request that the server cant/wont respond too. When I load other sites it pauses for a second at ~10% then loads, Storiesonline never gets passed the 10%.

It's full of spyware sending all you data back to China. That's what that 10 second delay is.

Especially if you install TikTok.

Of course, not the only app.

Riceeyes ๐Ÿšซ

@mclovinmanransom

Okay, here is something maybe to try. Go somewhere local where you can return it in a day or two and get a new Pixel 6. Put you sim card in it and try to access SOL and see what happens. After this test you can return it for a refund.

Riceeyes ๐Ÿšซ

@mclovinmanransom

Be sure you can return it for a full refund. I always assume that I will get a refund and then I don't. Also have you tried turning off all your add-ins and any virus software?

mclovinmanransom ๐Ÿšซ

@mclovinmanransom

Interestingly I couldn't even load to the 503 page while the site was down for maintenance earlier. Just stuck forever loading. I'm sure it's something on my phone or in the newest android build, but I'm not sure what.

@mclovinmanransom

That means your request is being intercepted way before it reaches the site.

So either network filtering or nanny software filtering is happening on that phone. And they're being sneaky and not telling you that you're blocked from accessing the site, instead they're blaming the site.

Solved!

Looking at the logs, it turned out the load balancer was rebooted by system maintenance on Tuesday 4am without my knowledge. The outage was for about 2 minutes then. Hardly noticeable.

IPv6 IP addresses were not added to the balancer's system config, so anybody hitting the site on IPv6 couldn't connect. Usually mobile networks use IPv6 when possible.

After last night's outage, I went through the protocol of starting the servers from scratch and restored the IPv6 addresses.

Should be fine now.

All three of those sites are working fine. The only sites that seem to be timing out are storiesonline and scifistories. Even other sites under wlpc like bookapy and the clitorides are fine.
