As with Freyrs_stories I'm not sure if this is a premier feature or not.
I just test with a random author and it's working for me (I have a paid premier membership).
The column headings for the sortable columns will be active links.
You should see a triangle next to the column heading that's the active sort. Point up indicates ascending sort, point down indicates descending sort.
If you click on the column heading that is already the active sort, it will swap the sort order between ascending/descending. If you click a different column you should get ascending sort on that column.
If this is a premier only function and you have a free account, none of the column headings will be clickable links and you will only get the default sort which is for the author pages ascending sort on title.

That also depends on which theme you have set in preferences. With the classic theme you have a dropdown list to select on what to sort, radio-buttons for asc/desc, and a button to sort. I don't know if that works on a free account.

Nope. I use the classic theme and what I described is how it works in the classic theme. What you are describing is the minimalist and the modern themes, not classic theme.
Search is almost impossible for non premium users these days. Mine reverted and it's horrible! So much more oranged out than previously.

Not true. I have never ever taken away previously free features.
I add premier features, but I don't move features to premier only if they were previously free.
For advanced search, for the last 20 years, you could only do story title and author name search and you can't sort by score.
