The story is told from a teenage boy's perspective. He and his mother have to live with her sister's family. His mom is an uptight Christian and recently divorced (ashamed of that as well). Her husband cheated on her though and she could not abide that.
The Family they move in with uses Christian Discipline. The mother (his mom's sister) and eldest daughter serve the household naked, and obediently. They submit to spankings and do so because of their interpretation of religion. Their motivations are to be obedient as the bible says their role should be, and to atone for past sins - thinking it is better to suffer a lifetime on earth as a pentinant than it is to suffer an eternal torment in hell.
Their personalities - maybe the Mom of that family is naturally submissive and accepting of this role, but the eldest daughter is sassy/opinionated and frequently gives confession of her sinful thoughts and actions.
They also have two sons, and a youngest daughter. The youngest daughter rejects this role, and is reluctant to do what she is told by her father/brothers.
When the story begins, the Aunt arrives and is shocked that she is greeted by her sister in the nude. She quickly ascertains that this is done to keep her modest and not subject to vanities of the flesh. She is wearing no makeup and her hair is not braided. The aunt having little choice but to stay because she used up all her cash driving there/car has broken down must reluctantly accept staying there - and the story progresses through the son's eyes.
