Fair enough, although I've heard it both ways. "I'm donating my time to this project so it doesn't overrun the original customer quote" as one example of how I've heard it used that way in my recent past.

The only context in which I've heard "donating" used to describe people's time is in the context of a business donating employee time to a charity.

The employee isn't volunteering because their employer is still paying them for the time spent working on the charity project.

Ok, makes sense in that regard. Of course, the mom could be donating her daughters to the cause, aka they've been voluntold.
