Revenge Through the Son

dancermike 🚫

A moral man with power has often blocked a depraved man with power. To get revenge, the depraved man hires the moral man's son through anonymous means. Then, as part of the job, he sends every sort of temptation and deprivation to the son.

The son has sex with many women, causing the depraved man to think he has gotten revenge. On confrontation, where the depraved man would show his revenge to the moral man, it's revealed that the son always treated the women well, making sure they wanted what was happening and never hurting anyone.

The moral man praised his son for treating the women well and not falling into any of the traps that would have hurt others. The moral man's attitude to the whole thing robbed the depraved man of his revenge.

While an intriguing concept, I can't imagine it providing a strong or consistent enough conflict to drive an entire story. After all, where's the 'crisis point', that normally launches a story, where the protagonist's normal world is 'throw into disarray' and he not only has to adjust, but to figure out 'how' to respond.

If if you take the 'moral man' (let's call him "Mortie" for then point of discussion) out of the topic, it wouldn't even rise to a crisis for Mort's son, Mike, as he could easily say "Sure" or "No friggin' way" any time he wants. Thus, there's NO central, driving conflict in the story. And, with no central conflict, there would also no NO satisfying conclusions.

Again, it's an intriguing concept, but not one anyone could build a story around.
