Strange radio signals

Astronomers on a planet rotating around Beta Centauri hear strange radio signals which seem to emanate from the Sol star system......After many centuries their search seems to have borne fruit but has it?

Despite Dr. Who, I doubt if creatures in another star system speak English.

Despite Dr. Who, I doubt if creatures in another star system speak English.

1. It should be noted that in proper Dr. Who cannon, the creatures in other start systems don't speak English. The doctor's companions hear English because among the many technological wonders of the TARDIS is a universal translator that functions by a form of synthetic telepathy.

2. If there are sentient creatures in another star system and they have the technology to get here in a feasible amount of time, it is not much of a stretch to think they could manage to decipher English or any other human language.

I recall an old TV show there the people were on a spaceship fleeing. On one episode one of the main characters would go into an unused space and listen to radio and watch TV. At the end, he left with another leaving the 'TV' on as nothing important was happening. After they left, it showed the first man on the moon.

The original Battlestar: Galactica. That was actually the very last episode of the original series, and basically how the series ended.

That was iconic.

I don't get the reference, but that could make for a funny story. Aliens show up to conquer the Earth, but the aliens are the size of mice. A fleet of alien battle cruisers each individually smaller than an F16 fighter.

I remember an episode of the original twilight zone. (Or maybe outer limits) A sheriff and a Lady are being terrorized by giant invisible aliens.a thumbprint covering his car door. Things thrown around....
Then they find that its all alien special effects. The ship is about 5 feet in diameter and they were trying to keep us off balance while investigating us.

It was called "The Invaders", and starred Agnes Moorhead (best known as Samantha's mother in Bewitched).

Agnes had a long career in suspense, having worked with Orson Wells for years. She even performed the classic suspense story "Sorry, Wrong Number" a staggering 8 different times.

I often find it sad that she was so good, but is mostly remembered for a silly role towards the end of her career.

You do realize it wasn't Trump's original idea right?

Air Force Space Command (AFSPC:1982) was the first clearly designated command for Space Operations for the military. It had several predecessors prior to that, going back to JFK. Depending on your definition, it could be said to carry back to the creation of Strategic Air Command/Air Force circa 1947 (along with the CIA/NSA).

I'm really surprised the Media/left would give Trump credit for it. The logic was the same logic Truman used to justify the National Security Act, and the Air Force.

With all due respect, is this any different than what any politician does? From my memory, going back at least as far as George W., it isn't. Any politician claims responsibility for the good and shuns or ignores any responsibility for the bad. Orange Man is far from unique in that respect.

Other than the one about never lying. But actually, historians have never figured out what moron came up with that story, as Washington never made the claim and it was never repeated during his lifetime (unless some new research has occurred in the last dozen years, that is).

Except when he decides to militarize space, despite virtually all international treaties, including the ones we championed, with little actual military backing. It's not that the big guy claims the credit and faults others, it's that he seemingly ignores laws, conventions and common sense. After all, what happens when the Space Force shoots down a satellite? For decades ever other satellite, military or civilian, is at risk of collisions with the sizable space debris left over.

As far as I can see, there's NO valid justification for a "Space Force" other than a chance to show off a standard miitary uniform and a ripped-off Star Trek Logo.

If it served a useful purpose, it would likely get a lot of support. As it it, it's the height of insanity. He/We are not about to shoot down any Soviet weapons, and now that he's opened the gate for the militarizing of space, we'll be fighting the Russian and Chinese space forces for the next hundred years (see Russia's 'new' high-range missiles and China's claims to the far side of the moon).

Except that's not what he did. All he did was split the USAF Space Command, which has been around since 1982, out as it's own branch of the military.

Everything the USSF will be doing was already being done by the USAFSPC.

Also that ripped-off Star Trek Logo you hate so much. The USAFSPC had been using it for decades before Trump was Elected President.

And what I find the most funny, is that is not what it is at all.

There are no combat commands in the organization, none. There are no actual weapons in the organizations, other than typical hand weapons for individual defense. However, it is now in charge of the testing, design, and implementation of current and future R&D programs.

Which include things like the various ground to space rockets the Army and Navy deploy. But the USSF itself has none. But what it does have control over is things like the launching and monitoring of recon birds, the GPS system, and other things that it handles for the rest of the services, the NSA, and the NRO.

This is what I find most funny, is that I have been hearing people spout off things like that for years. Invariably something they heard form somewhere, which was passed from somewhere else. Yet, nobody ever seems to have bothered to see if those original claims were true or not.

But this is nothing new, it seems that today, all you have to do is to get enough people to parrot something, and it will be accepted as truth no matter what. An old saying, and it makes me sad that in the current decade, it is coming true.

Douglas Adam's quote has resonance, as it's a semi-palindrome for "God" (i.e. they overestimated their abilities, figuratively attacking God himself by mistake). Changing the noun would rob the line of it's beauty.

I doubt anyone could document Washington lying with any reasonable confidence. The same is true of proving he didn't. At least outside of the revolutionary war effort. For the latter, lies can definitely be attributed to him.

Mason Locke Weems who published "The Life and Memorable Actions of George Washington" in 1800 definitely lied. Washington himself never said anything about a cherry tree, and Weems didn't insert the story until the fifth edition of that book in 1806. While the story cannot be definitively proven false, the timeline, sources, and timing are definitely suspect at the very least.

The only movie I can see that both Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor where in together was Harlem Nights (1989).

Eddie Murphy was in an alien movie Meet Dave (2008) and Richard Pryor ran the Star Wars Bar in a skit from his The Richard Pryor Show (1977).

But maybe there is a chance that maybe they did a skit during Saturday Night Live to which I have know idea as I've never watched the show.

They aren't concerned about respectability, it's a safety measure.

When politician A calls Politician B a liar, it creates a paradox. All politicians are liars so A must be lying, but if A is lying then B is not a liar, but all politicians are liars...

Under normal conditions the paradox has room to dissipate.

However, it has been theorized that if two politicians are standing too close to each other when one calls the other a liar, it will cause a feedback wave in the paradox that will build until it causes the universe to implode.
