I have an idea for a story about extremely smart girl graduates high school at the age of ten and is trying to follow in her mother and father 's footsteps and become a doctor. She volunteers as a candystripeer st the same hospital were her parents work. A group of militant racist that have splinter off from a minority organization take over the hospital because their leader has been wounded and needs medical attention. Not knowing she is only fourteen years old.
In most states, you can't volunteer until you are older, but you could find some hand-wavium way to get around that.
My only suggestion is to proof-read your story closely. I ran into not one, but two stories recently that had candy-strippers and, while I am sure they would be entertaining, the images that come to mind are not what the author intended :-)
I seem to remember reading a story with an extremely similar story line in ASSTR in the mid to early 90's. Maybe peruse the archives to find and resurrect it.
