Cook to Meal – this week's four letter word game

Cook to Meal – this week's four letter word game

Phase one is to change one letter in the base word (Cook) to form a new word.

Now continue changing one letter in each new word until you get to the target word (Meal).

Phase two is to create a story using in order the words in your list, each word appearing in its own sentence. You are permitted to change a word in your list to a different form of the same word; for example, bent could become bend or bending.

Phase three is to send your completed word list and story to me. I will attempt to illustrate it and then post it to SoL. If you wish you can supply your own illustrations or suggest illustrations.

After catching a coot in the castle moat, the cook stripped off its feathery coat then braised the meat - not much of a meal, but safer than venturing into the outside world during the zombie apocalypse.

(Yes, I know I didn't follow the instructions.)

Curiously, my 44 word story has so far attracted 32 readers per word (no of readers divided by number of words).

However stories26050's contribution has eclipsed that with 33 readers per word.

I wonder what the site record is for readers per word. Even a story about a medically discharged Special Forces Operative who heroically rescues children from child slavers would struggle to top those numbers because of verbiage needed to convey the plot.

I wonder what the site record is for readers per word.

I have a story, Her Smile, which is just five words long. I suppose if you count about a thousand words per illustration, the readers per word drops substantially.

Don't you already have over 2,000 AI generated stories and images? Your last story was only 113 words long and whatever program you use for your images looks like it was from the 90's.

Only a handful of my stories involved AI, and those are clearly marked. Most of the illustrations I make using DAZ Studio, which I've used for quite a few years but not as long ago as the 90s. I'ved used a few images from CoPilot, usually in conjunction with DAZ. If an image is entirely via CoPilot I've noted that. Modern AI engines are certainly capable of creating remarkable images, but using DAZ is more fun and better satisfies my creative urges. Good AI pictures do require attentive input, and it's fun to see how they come out.

I'm curious about the game.

I'm familiar with the first part. My newspaper calls it a Word Ladder. The object is to complete the transformation in as few steps as possible.

But when it comes to writing a story, surely there's an incentive to use a more scenic route. For SOL especially, from cook you can go to cock, then cuck, then fuck (and suck) etc.

And for @ystokes, I can certify that my contribution was free of intelligence, artificial or otherwise ;-)

In this version there is no special incentive to get to the target word in as few steps as possible. As you suggest, more steps can be an advantage.
