MC accidentally slips back and forth through time. At first unaware of how/why, slowly the MC begins to realize that the "time slips" are caused by them (exact method author's discretion). Once they realize this, they begin to learn how to control it: direction (forward/back), distance (how far), ability to take more items/people with them, etc.
Usually, a time shift story is in one direction only and one way. Occasionally, a story will pop up where the MC returns to their original time somehow either permanently or just temporarily before returning to the past for good.
I am hoping someone will take this prompt and write a story where the plot isn't centered on 1 time slip but covers many... where the MC slowly learns to control the ability and harness the unique opportunities this gives them. Basically the plot of the story should be the rise of a Time Lord.
Problems the proto-Time Lord should face and have to overcome is language shifts/barriers, identifying dangers, learning new skills/abilities to deal with situations they find themselves in in each time slippage, identifying how they create the time slip and how to control it, recognizing causal points (events in time periods that would cause massive time line changes if they happened differently.. example stopping the assassination of President Lincoln).
MC should be intelligent but not a Mary Sue (not a super expert aka not an engineer/history buff that was also a special forces operative with high martial arts skill). Too many stories out there where all the problems are Mary-Sue'd by the MC being a super-expert or being given a ton of equipment that contains everything they need.
