When I posted my story idea here, the way I presented it was to show how her ability worked... wasn't trying to insinuate that she was able to reliably or precisely measure her intelligence. Instead I would expect that the writer would have her "discover" her increased ability by her recognizing that she is understanding more complex topics easier and faster than before, quickly solving math problems that previously presented difficulty for her, etc.... and then after a few days noticing that her focus isn't as sharp, she no longer understands that complex problem (or not to the degree she understood it previously), she is again having problems with those same type of math problems, etc...

The benefits of the intelligence boost would initially be the sharper focus, ease of understanding, depth of understanding, etc... but she would also start to think more about her future and/or maybe her family's future or something else that makes her want that boost to be constant. So she starts using those boosted periods of sharper focus to analyze the patterns of when they happen and how long they last and how they taper off... until she eventually realizes the connection with sex/sexual fluids. Once that happens, she can start making plans that would lead to a consistent "supply".
