A (Russian) guy in late forties or early fifties, maybe older. Heavy equipment support engineer, reasonably well off, neither rich nor poor. Moved into an apartment in questionable low cost neighborhood after second divorce to save money, and because he was on the road for work a lot anyways. Adult children from first marriage; son and his wife with young children live not too far away to visit near-daily.
One evening, bringing trash bags out to the container on the street, he finds a newborn in the garbage container. Alive, still wet with delivery waters and warm. In shock, he grabs the newborn and rushes to hospital.
To get help he has no choice but to fill the newborn girl under his own name. Doctors find her very much healthy and confirm he most likely saved her life by acting quickly.
Police gets involved (likely because he was, loudly, telling everyone how he found the child in garbage) and instead accuse him in kidnapping. The garbage container had been emptied by then, police tell him guilty at least in destruction of evidence. He should've called police right away. He argue that no real human would, the child could have died while they would come. He spends the night in police custody, but gets released next day.
He files formalities (for adoption?) to keep the child right away. Son and his wife offer some support, but display no willingness to get deeper involved.
He takes a partial leave from work to care for the child, and take the newborn home.
The police, to his knowledge, aren't even investigating how the newborn was thrown out, only his possible kidnapping. He offers and pays a bribe for that to be closed. Seemingly successfully.
He had never paid much attention to the neighborhood, but now he's very alert. He sees a young blond woman (teenage, perhaps) in what looks like abused relationship with two goons (arabs?) and somehow conclude (wrongfully) she must be the mother of the child.
So he "rescues" -- kidnaps her, subsequently beating the goons who then disappear. Only then he realizes they share no common language with the young woman. The girl is obedient and doesn't complain, but staunchly claims the child isn't hers. That is somehow medically confirmed (perhaps, that the girl haven't given birth yet). He feels all guilty then, but the girl, seemingly willingly, stays with him...

(This, allegedly, unfolded earlier this year in Austria or Germany, I'm not sure exactly.)
