DM Hypnosis

ralord82276 🚫

Story Idea:
RPG where DM uses hypnosis to make the adventure "come alive" for the players. However, during one session, the DM has a sudden massive heart attack or stroke and dies before he can "release" the players. Now they are stuck mentally in an RPG world but physically in our world.

What are the consequences? resulting situations?
Since there is no longer any "guidance" from the DM, does each player continually create/play through their own RPG scenario/world?
Or do they continue somehow to remain linked in a common hypnotic fantasy?

This isn't a bad idea, but i think it needs a good "sex" demon to take over the game.

The only two things i can think of that would be comparable to this idea are the Jumanji movies and those two anime movies i forget the name of...

Otherwise i think this is a "wide canvas" type of topic

You may want to check out the 1982 film Mazes and Monsters (or the 1981 Rona Jaffe novel of the same name). It's about a college student who experiences a psychotic break and comes to believe that he is his character.

The novel is loosely based on a late-70s incident in which sensationalist newspaper reporting blamed a college kid's disappearance on his "obsession" with D&D. In actually the guy was a child prodigy suffering depression who left a suicide note and hid at a friend's house after his attempt failed.

The family had hired an investigator after the police didn't find the kid fast enough for their liking. He found out about the D&D and told the family that his friends had killed him while playing the game in tunnels under the university. They fired him.
So, of course, he took the story to the papers.
