Aural Viewing/Influence

ralord82276 🚫

Maybe someone can come up with a story where the MC grows up always being able to see aural colors around people. Initially MC has no idea what they are or that no one else can see them. Eventually MC learns not only how to decipher what the different aural colors and patterns mean but also how to influence them. By influencing the colors and patterns of a person's aura, the MC can drastically change a person's personality, mental state, emotions, and thought patterns. Discovering this brings up a moral conflict for the MC over when and how this ability should be used and when it should be avoided (both for moral purposes and to prevent detection). The discovery and growth of understanding about the MC's abilities should be gradual over the course of years of experimentation. Also, how would all of this affect the MC's life?

I can't think of any titles off hand, but I've seen a few mind control stories with elements like this. If the ones I've read are any indication, the biggest effect this would have on the protagonist's life is that they would go from being a geek to having a harem.

Me neither, but I've read a few SOL stories with those elements, not necessarily mind control.

ETA: I think aural colours play a role in Technic Dragon's ongoing 'Small Deaths' story and its predecessor.

There was an (Indian?) spiritual book (ostensibly seriously) suggesting to learn to see auras by observing naked teenage girls in darkness. I can attest it kinda sorta woks, almost. There's a certain glow... but I didn't get very far with it.
