I just realized I had somehow missed Nick Book II.
To refresh my memory I reread the last chapter (33) of Nick, High School. Then I started with chapter 1 of Nick Book 2.
The first half of chapter 1 is a copy-past of chapter 33!
P.G.Allison does something similar in his Missy the Werecat series. The epilogue of the prequel is the prologue of the sequel. If you read the next book immediately after the previous, you can skip the prologue. If there were some month between the two, reading the prologue will jostle your memory.
But this, repeating a whole chapter without any warning and no indication where the repetition ends and the new stuff starts? I'm upset.

HM.

Just to clarify his dad was the American ambassador to Japan and then Russia not the Japanese ambassador.
