Do-Over back to age 10, with knowledge, different this time

Updated:

I've looked at the Do-Over stories in Category Search and can't find this one. Sure it was on SOL.

MC in 1st life spent his time, money and effort working for wife and kids ? (daughters ?), and getting taken for granted. Resolves on do-over from age 10 to make sure he that he doesn't miss out this time on what life offers him.

ETA it is not 'Emend by Eclipse'

Was the reset-time in the 1950s?

You may want to look at https://web.archive.org/web/20201111205344/do-over.wikifoundry.com/ to see if something rings a bell.

As best I can check, it is not one of the SOL stories listed on that site. I don't look at LIT, so did not check any of the LIT stories. I'm sure it is not one of the for-sale stories, either.

Looks like I have mis-remembered things. Maybe it's a manifestation of the *dreaded* CRS that comes with increasing age :-(

Maybe it was the John the Genius series you're thinking of

A fresh Start by RLFJ has an MC go back to age 13 in the 1960s. IIRC he was a genius but ended up selling trailers for most of his life, with a wife he loved and a special needs daughter.
Gets a do-over and decides to keep the wife but change everything else, including serving in the military.

I believe that you are looking for the hindsight series by SmokinDriver. One I read every couple of years.

@ArthurSB73

Sounds right:

In my old path, I had a wife, three kids, a dog, a cat, a house and a mortgage. I had put one child through college, had one in college and one ready to start. I had just spent over $120,000 on my oldest to get her through school and now all she wanted was a wedding so she could stay home and have babies

&

I loved my wife and kids but felt like everything I did was for them. I lived to make them happy. However, now that I had a new string I could try the path less traveled. I had a fresh canvas to paint my new life story. I would have to choose, starting with my ten year-old string, where to go.

@ArthurSB73

I'm pretty sure you are correct ! I had a look at the beginning and it seems right.

MANY THANKS

Ian
