I remember that the MC used barcodes to track shipping containers, started an over-the-road shipping company that had truckstops, and pretty much eliminated long-haul trucking by swapping drivers. I think it was either a do-over or at least part of one.
Sounds like something SmokinDriver could have written, perhaps one of the Hindsight 20/20 stories.

It actually is a series, written by SmokinDriver. From what I recall, the meat of what you mentioned is in the second book in the series.

I sort of remembered it as I wrote the request. When I wrote about the truck stops, I remembered he also sponsored his friend's chain of chicken and waffles restaurants. I was reading cmsix's "I feel lucky" and Jimmy was looking at trucks and it made me remember the general story, so I came here and temporarily sort of cured my CRS but had to get verification from the experts.
