It is about a boat in a salvage yard, wooden hull, and they find that the keel is filled partially with gems. People seem to think they are paste, but there is a jeweler on another boat that sets them straight.

This is by Old Man with a Pen. Let me think about the story name.
Now that I have thought, it is A Second Chance Chapter 25 is when they talk to the jeweler.
Good Hunting, limab
Thank you, I was remembering so many boat stories after re-reading the Dark Vision trilogy. There is another one about a boat with the keel solid gold and the one Florida Friends story with the packet interfering with the rudder. I am sure there are more boat stories, but they escape me because of my CRS.
Yeah, there was something a bit like that in Reluctant Sir's https://storiesonline.net/s/18210/dark-days-darkest-before but with gold instead of gems.
I believe I've read that one. CRS hits me for the name and author.
I believe it was siblings who were working to make a mold of the ship, that had been given to them for the purpose.
They tried to return the gems as I recall.
They had a little turd for a brother who was always stirring shit for them.
The boy talked the grandmother into placing bets based on his previous life.
It was tagged as incest and doover if that helps.
Actually that is also in A Second Chance a couple of chapters later
"Since you already know of our good fortune I'll tell you ... the ballast may be gold ... if it is ... it's thirteen and a half tons."
"It's not ... it's ingots cast in concrete. The outside keel is a hollow cast lead facade filled with gold."
Howard Faxon's An Ill Wind has the MC loot a drug lord's yacht after a hurricane, including a quantity of gold bars.
