The protagonist is a decorated vet who literally forgets his military service and marries someone who winds up cheating and cuckolding him with three neighbors. The guy dreams of "fireflies" which actually are memories of being shot at with tracer ammunition. He finds out about the cheating, that his kids aren't truly his, divorces and goes back to the military (Marines?)
