I am looking for a story I read a long time ago. about a man living on earth way in future, now privative conditions. he travels to abandoned and destroyed cities of the lost past to glean goods for his use and trade, I remember it was a long one.

I'm afraid were going to need some more info, because that's a common lifestyle in apocalyptic scenarios. Was "a long time ago" 5 years or 50? Any idea where you read it? Was he alone, or did he have companions?
The story that sprang to my mind that I read a long time ago was the dead tree book Greybeard by Brian Aldiss, first published in 1964.
Ka Hmnd had some stories that fit but I'm unable to think of the titles at the moment.

Not everybody gets the same suggestion. Premier members' suggestion differs from free members. So it's best to actually list the story you're seeing.

It's logical to not present free members with suggestions that are only available to premium members.
ETA Or maybe not... It might convince them to get a premium membership :)
Once a year I let my Premier membership lapse for a few days, that way I see what the differences between the two memberships are. One very obvious difference is that the Random Blast From the Past is not necessarily the first story on the page, but I thought the random story was sometimes unavailable for freebies.
My next chance to check (unless I create a second account) is in 4 months.
