Looking for a story I read a long time ago. I believe the MC is a professor, or the wife is. Wife is cheating on him. MC starts affair with younger woman. Woman and wife develop feelings for each other and they become a happy three person couple.

I don't know the story, but I believe that the correct term here is thruple.
My bad.
I put forward a point of information, but there was no intent to imply that you did anything wrong. Thruple is relatively new, but it's a good word for the described situation and it fits with couple.

The article you linked spells it throuple, as did Arman1995 in his headline. How comes you dropped the "o"?
HM.

Typeo. Nothing more nothing less.
In the alternative lifestyles community, at least in my area, the common term is "triad". Triad is also the word most commonly used in psychology.
This is at least in part because most psychologists prefer the word "dyad" over "couple" since couple has certain traditional implications that don't apply to all relationships. The psychological modelling of dyads and triads can be applied across multiple relationship types, including non-romantic ones like friend groups.
Maybe Never Too Late by expresso42?
Although neither the husband nor wife are teachers in the story, but the husband goes back to school to earn a promotion.
//EDIT: Correction, I just skimmed through the story to confirm my memories and noticed that the wife is indeed a school teacher.
