Do over @ baseball game

Drake ๐Ÿšซ

I was reading a do-over story and thought it had a particular scene, but now realize it must be from another story entirely.
The only thing that stands out about the scene is that they are at a pro baseball game, but it doesn't play out the way the MC remembers. The fielder missed a catch for an out to end the inning and the pitcher faced another batter before closing out the inning (maybe it ended the game to, can't remember). It was then that the MC realized his proximity to events can cause them to change from what he remembers

That rings a bell. It might be from Charlie Foxtrot's "A New Past", although I could not find it with a quick scan.

I think that meme has actually appeared in a couple of stories. The one with two guys who come back, one of whom is on the spectrum a bit and has no social skills, the other who is the consummate salesman, I think there's something similar in that story.

@Harold Wilson

I just reread "A New Past" last week and I don't remember that baseball scene - it could be there, I just don't remember it.

It definitely is not in Emend by Eclipse

This one doesn't ring a bell, I'll think on this.

Good hunting, limab

@Drake

Do you recall if the baseball change was related to a bet?

Chapter 10: Front Row at the World Series of Sage Mullin's Lightning in a Bottle

About 2/3 way down, 'October 21, 1980'

I'd chosen seats on the first base side with this play in mind. I knew that Bob Boone, the Phillies' catcher, and first baseman Pete Rose would converge on the foul pop right in front of the dugout. Boone would reach up to make the catch, but would commit the cardinal baseball sin of taking his eye off of the ball. As a result, the ball would carom off his glove, right in the direction of Rose, who would grab the ball before it hit the ground. Just like that, two outs. It was a lucky bounce, a classic "uh oh ... whew" moment, and when it happened, you just knew it was the Phillies' year.

Except... that's not what happened this time around.
