I'm looking for an older story.
The main character has some mind control abilities and joins the military [edit: after the trauma of loosing his wife, while being mentally connected to her and then torturing and killing her killer in the desert], where he earns the nickname ghost, because he usually [doesn't say anything and] goes unnoticed. After a semi failed extraction mission he medically retires, he has a long stay in a mental/recovery hospital.
And while there he goes on a rampage to kill some organized criminals to save his sister and helps the CIA (?) to torture someone.
I don't remember the title or the author of the story whichs makes it difficult to search for it.
Anyone recognize the story?
