Not too long ago I read a very good story set in Seattle and Western Washington (near Mt Vernon). Protagonist was a former navy corpsman who had served in Stan. The town was full of witches, magic users, and was situated near a wood that was a gateway to another dimension. The protagonist was being forced into a caretaker role for the dead caretaker who raised him. Lots of nice action scenes.
