Protagonist has the ability to move/see outside regular time and space and uses it first to solve some crime, trusts in friends, one of whom wants him to do more than he is willing and then tells the government about his ability. Coming into the crosshairs of government and shadow government organisations he has to basically run and destroy them.

Could it be 'The Gift' and 'The Gift Book 2' by Volentrin? Seems to be the strongest candidate from the 14 stories containing 'Lizzie Borden'.
