Artie had several stories here before he retired and pulled them. I am looking for the NAME (only) of one of his stories.
Unfortunately I can only remember bits an pieces
The main character is either a grad student or professor, physics I think. He is interested in time. I believe he has a side job making and selling very accurate electronic clocks. He made device that projected a pattern(vortex?) above it. It turns out that the vortex gave access to another - dimension(?)where he was quizzed on time and timekeeping. I remember the being there had all sorts of watches and clocks and they talked of accuracy and consistency (something about mechanical wristwatches needing the consistent body heat to keep time properly) he gave her a device that kept time like an atomic clock. She then gave him the ability to manipulate time - not time travel. There was a group that had the same ability but weaker - their clocks weren't as accurate. But they had more practice in manipulation. He acquired apprentices (female) and allied with masters. he lives in his uncles old house. He inherited it. At the end his uncle showed up, the uncle was a master and had to get a new identity because he was living to long.
