The Wizard was expected to win the challenge for leader of the secret wizard refuge, but lost under suspicious circumstances. He leaves and wanders around 'the Empire.' He makes his way to an outpost town where he makes himself useful fixing the sewage processing, and hooks up with a barmaid.
He heads to the nearest big city with a friend/keeper. The local governor meets him, and he is given a task to unlock a wizard int house. He successful, and gets to keep the house. It still has mysteries to solve.
He has an affair with a poor noble widow, but breaks it off when he realises he doesn't like her after he fixes her money issues.
He's involved in shenanigans with some pissed off veterans. A boat is exploded.
A giant undead thing comes out of a tomb on a little island off the coast. Dealing with that takes a lot.
