one scene

bjp120111 ๐Ÿšซ

Most all I can remember is the MC gets shot (possibly in an artery) and he goes into a deep trance like meditative state that seemingly stops his heart, and blood loss. His sister? is told, by telepthy, to not have the paramedics try and restart his heart and focus on the gun shot.

It was set in recent times, I think her name might have been Suzie...or Sam...

There is a scene in Arlene and Jeff (RoustWriter) with a character getting stabbed and his dead wife (who is living in his head) tells his girlfriends to not panic and keep the doctors calm. this was in book 3 chapter 33.

The names were Fred, Brenda(his dead wife), Jessica, Carla and Audrey.

Man,that first sentence is weird.

Great scene but not it. I recall some form of martial art proficiency leading to the inner medetative state that the MC becomes able to look in his body at the systems therein. Not sure where the mental communication originates from, but the female is familiar with this form of "talking."

Don't know if it's what you are looking for but I remember this one having some of what you listed.

After an exhaustive search, even purchasing a premier subscription, falling into the depth of search results on page 7, 12, 19, 23, even page 31 did not have the story I recalled. I am left to believe that the story has been removed. I appreciate all your help in searching so to come to this conclusion is disheartening but always was an outcome. Thanks and goodnight.

it's a pity you can't remember any names of people or places or a bit more of the plot line.

This is driving me nuts! Lol I know that I've read this story. If I'm not mistaken I believe the MC uses his chi to accelerate his healing. I think he played sports as well.

@carbide

It is bordering on (Florida Friends) Chuck and Lisa's connection in some ways, but I can't think of a specific incident where that applies. No sports in that though.

MC uses his chi to accelerate his healing

The only story I've read where this happens is Deja Vu Ascendancy. And, he does have some telepathy and other mental. But it's been a while since I read it.

https://storiesonline.net/s/57098:79305

At one point he fights the US Government by pretending to be an angel. His power come from his mind moving into the mind of another version of him in a parallel dimension when he tries to commit suicide. He gets rich by gambling at one point.

edit to add: late in the story he uses his chi and minds ability to affect changes in his body so he won't be recognised. He gets kidnapped by the CIA and experimented on in a secret underground lab. I think he does get shot at one point and uses his mental skills to heal himself.

Maybe it's time to re-read it.

That's not the one I'm thinking of. A good read though!

YES!! This sounds like the story. I just wish that my subconcious would add all the pieces together and smack me in the head with the title.

Lol. I know what you mean. It's been driving me nuts trying to remember.

So just for my sanity a recap with some fuzzy memories. The MC, a student athlete, gets shot/stabbed, drops into a deep meditative state that allows him to control his heartbeat so that he doesn't die of blood loss. He talks with a female character using mental telepathy that she is familiar using, to tell the paramedics that he is not dead, doesn't need to be shocked with a defibrillator and to focus on getting him to the hospital. ** fuzzy memory part** The MC is on the opperating table and hears the surgeon cuss under his breath how it would be a lot easier to find the leaks and test repairs if there was blood actually flowing because working on this guy is like in med school practicing on cadavers. The MC hears this and lets his heart beat a few times to get the system up to pressure. The doctor sees the increase in blood pressure and thinks it a coincidence but then it occurs again after a few minutes. The doctor just thinks he's going nuts because there is no way a patient that is under can hear and then react.**Maybe**
If this jogs another scene from your memory share the knowledge and maybe we can all enjoy a good read after this brainstorm.

I'll go along with that.
The elements described are only marginally outside current knowledge; there have been cases where patients under full anaesthetic have subsequently been able to tell the surgeon what was said during the operation. Some, a very few, mystics have been able to control their bodily functions including controlling their heart rate though, true, not to the extent suggested.
The story should be interesting.

The largest impedment is that I know it is older than 2009 and might not be tagged with some of the "new" tags to help narrow the search. Does anyone know the date the science fiction tags were updated about then?

Not really, but i did a search with do-over and esp and found a number of stories in the 2004 2005 time frame.

edit to add: it is possible the authors updated the tags later.

Cowboy622 ๐Ÿšซ

You might look at Lazalong's Fountain of youth. The characters can look into their body systems and heal injuries. In book one the main character is a high school student athlete but this is more of a do-over story.

That sounds like the 'Twice Lucky' series by Joe J.

https://storiesonline.net/s/40278/twice-lucky
https://storiesonline.net/s/41086/twice-lucky-ii-time-for-a-change
https://storiesonline.net/s/42780/twice-lucky-iii-divergence

Unfortunately, the last one is not finished, and since the last date was in 2006, I doubt if it will be. Is he still with us, or one of those who has gone ahead?
