While reading Burr, I remembered a few similar stories but not their titles,
One had the MC moving into a mansion near a fishing dock and being saved from rich bullies by a black captain of a fishing boat after the cook sent him for a bucket of shrimp(?)

Another involved starting a company building small boats (I don't think they were the same story)

And the third was about being sent to live with his grandmother by his mother. He was playing football in Texas and got sent to a combination private school/reform school with unstable teens.
