This might not be SOL. I thought it was because the writer left a blog that he would be back next year with the rest. I might be mixing up stories.
MC goes to a magic school and is sent to a teacher that lives alone. I think the teacher lives in a small house by a lake. MC has a special magic. I remember part where is fighting a dragon with others on a hill I think.

It was the only one I could think of that was close and some times people remember a story and mix up events with more than one story. Either way I hope they find the story as it sounds interesting.

I did have Kindle Unlimited at the time so I might be mixing up some stories but I don't think I am. The one I am looking for was a full fantasy location. No alternate earth or current time that I remember.
