I read this a long long time ago. Does any body know what the story is.

About post apocalypse world where nearly all human turn to some kind of a beast. A man hit a turned girl on the head and chain/keep her in the bedroom. House train her but eventually she escape through the window. Afterward he find a normal human, try to have children but miscarriage 2-3 time. Eventually that woman hang or kill herself and he kill himself after her.

I believe I know the one you are talking about... the one I'm thinking of there was a plague. Most people died though many survived with brain damage that left them as aggressive unintelligent almost zombie like people. The Mc survived with his mind intact. He captured one and tried to train her using sex but she escaped out the window and tried to kill something too big (maybe an elk) and it killed her. The second one was intelligent enough to talk but still dim. When she finally carried a child to term it was stillborn with the bloodshot eyes of someone infected with the plague. Realizing the disease was still there and humanity was a lost cause he killed himself.

Had a feeling I read this fairly recently - turns out it was October.
