From what I remember it's a coming of age story about a smart kid with horrible parents. Mom and bad step dad I think. They favor the other siblings heavily and when the MC tries to go to a better school they force him not to. He somehow gets away and meets his real dad, who is rich enough with a daughter and they all get along fine.
