He writes works of fiction that take a very philosophical and analytical view of society. One story I remember started with a guy losing his job, and all the changes he goes through. But the whole first section of the story was an analytical thought piece about modern society.
I want to say he has a slavic sounding name with a "J" in it, but I looked at the list of J authors without it ringing a bell.
