Coming of age story of unusual boy. He had spent the summer with his different sets of grandparents, Japanese and Native American, learning the skills of his heritages. He is delivered to his parents when all six adults are murdered and he is injured. There is considrable drama at the hospital with the conflict between a tribal shaman and a social worker as to who is to take custody of the boy. The boy, a nurse and the shaman escape to a home on a tribal reservation where they eventually must run from assassins.
