There is a young boy who gets into a fight on the bus with an older trio of bullies. He ends up using his lunchbox to smash one of them after they get off the bus. The bus driver doesn't see anything but claims he saw it all.
Second thing I remember (!ight be a different story) is Dad is a closet homosexual who ends up dying at his work site. Crushed by a vehicle, I think saving someone else.

First is rlfj's A Fresh Start. (He actually does a number on them all, and not just hitting someone with a lunchbox. And he's falsely accused, but he meets his lawyer through the process, and gets his stake for investing from suing the parents of the trio.)
Second is Ahead From the Past by Sourdough and the Purvv (the dad was turned into a homosexual by a vindictive magic-user - his father-in-law, who resented losing his fucktoy daughter - and killed himself when his indiscretions were about to be made public)
