I once read a story in which the protagonist had made up (or downloaded) a list of rules to follow in life. That's all I remember about the story. Help appreciated.

Thank you very much - that's the story. The delay in my thank-you note was caused by my reading far enough into the story again to find the list. Thanks, again.
If you can find the back engine (I've lost the address) the discussion of the rules is on
wiki.zalezac.com/wiki/The_Facts_of_Life
There used to be a Wikipedia file on Lazlo including the back engine address but it has disappeared.

That's it. Lazlo Zalezac explained that he was forced to take it down because of spam.
Great pity that the discussion was not copied because each heading was explained in depth. Some of the detail is in the original story "The Millionaire Next Door" which is/was on SOL. Sysyphus also added some valuable ideas which are no longer available.
