He went four years without posting a new chapter for D-man 3 and then finally wrote a new chapter a year and a half ago.
My theory is that he kind of wrote himself into a corner. He had a tendency to blow up the MC's relationships. He could usually justify the offending character(s)' actions. This time, IMHO the author was blatantly unfair to one of his characters in particular (having her act out of character). For him to fix it, he would have needed to rewrite the last couple of chapters and come up with a more plausible explanation for this character's actions/inactions to reasonably explain them in a believable way (I probably wasn't the only reader to feel this way).
I'm hoping that the author will resume posting the story, but also hope that he can resolve the issue in a way that leaves readers satisfied. For the most part, it has been a fun series to read.
I completely agree with your assessment. I read the new chapter when it came out and responded to the author with my critique and it was almost the same as what you wrote. I seem to recall that it was more than one woman that acted out of character, but it's been a while so I could be misremembering. While it would be nice to see more chapters in the story, I'm not sure how much more I would read if it kept going the same way.

Yeah, I think there was more than one woman who somewhat acted out of character, but there was only one whose actions could not be reconciled at all. Without getting into spoilers and providing a name for the woman, she had a fanatical sense of loyalty and really owed the MC too much to act as she did. To me, her behavior could not be reconciled with her value systems.
As an author myself, the most important thing about writing fiction is developing believable characters and putting them into various situations and see how they react (and interact). This requires an author to be true to their characters. When this doesn't happen, the story loses some good faith with the reader.
I'm not saying that the story had completely lost my interest, but I wish the author would do a rewrite to fix this. This is how good this story was and how much potential it still has. I hope to see more soon!
I also agree with that. My biggest problem with the story is almost every woman betrays him in one way or another.
