A recent post reminded me of a story series I read a couple years back.
Guy interviewed for an ambassadorial position (trade liaison?) and was the first of many to make it through the selection process. Eventually grew horns, went on adventures etc. Multiple stories in a series.
Potentially named Jack?

Those are all based on Ed Walters though, they've been over on Lit for years as well. Kind of odd that he only brought over part of his library.
