It was a story I read years ago about a middle aged guy who is around 40, with a next door neighbor maybe 25 years older who has a stroke. Her adult daughter moves home to assist her mother, and they start an affair. I think he helped the mother recover.
Been looking for this for some time and appreciate the help!

And the main character might be younger.
